12 August 2018Is one of the most prominent and popular of East Coast yachtsmen, being Rear-Commodore of the Royal Harwich Yacht Club, and Vice-Commodore of the Orwell Corinthian Club. He was born in 1860, being a son of the late Rev. F. Pretyman, Hon. Canon of Lincoln. Educated at Eton, he entered the Royal Military Academy, and in 1880 joined the Royal Artillery. He owns a magnificent estate overlooking the river Orwell, and for many years has displayed great interest in the fortunes of the Orwell Corinthian Club, as well as the Royal Harwich. He was elected Conservative Member for the Woodbridge Division of Suffolk, and appointed first Civil Lord of the Admiralty. Subsequently he was appointed Secretary to the Admiralty. He owns the 9-ton cutter Tamarisk.
